New Reviews

April 1, 2009 by Z.A. Maxfield

zm_stnachos_coverlg I got a really nice review for St. Nacho’s today from Alex Beecroft. She’s participating in the m/m challenge, and St. Nacho’s was lucky enough to be one of the books on her list!

Okay, I totally fangirl Alex, it’s hopeless. I love Captain’s Surrender and I’ve had False Colors on order since the first day they had it up at Amazon. When she said she liked my first book I felt like I won the lottery. She said some really nice things in this review too, even though one of the characters wasn’t her cup of tea, and I’m excited to say that she liked it.  (To think, when I first met her online I was just proud we have the same birthday.)  She wrote:

The thread of music and the thoughts about how Cooper and Shawn can communicate through music in particular I found very gripping.  I loved the sign language choir and the insight into what music is and how it affects both characters.

This is one of my favorite things that anyone has said about St. Nacho’s.

zam_drawntogether_coverlg1Also, I have two very nice reviews of Drawn Together, one from Erotic Horizons, which has been very kind to me, and said:

Z. A .Maxfield has such a way with words and her style is something special. Her characters are always fully developed, i have not met one yet that I questioned what, who or when.

You can read the rest of the review here.  This is a site with a very nice format, E.H. reviewers consider things very carefully and organize their thoughts very well.

The other review I got today was a fabulous 4.5 out of 5 from the new review site, BookWenches, whose reviewer BD Whitney had this to say:

This is not your typical romance. Readers looking for something entertaining and just a little bit different may wish to consider reading Drawn Together. Ms. Maxfield is a very talented storyteller and writer, and I for one will continue to seek out her offerings as soon as they are available.

You can read the rest of the review here.

I am so grateful that people seem to really like these books, and I just want to say thanks from the bottom of my heart to the people who are reading them and responding so vocally about it!  You can find links to all my books right here on the books page of my website.

I have a question about Drawn Together! (Sorry about posting in an old entry. I hope you will see this.)

I’m reading DT right now and loving it rather a lot. I have about eighty pages to go, and I’ve realized that I really want a print copy of it, so I’ve been holding off on finishing it. Do you think it will ever be released in paperback?

Hi, not to worry, WordPress notifies me, and I get all the messages as they come, although I am sorry it took me so long to reply. (I’m dropping the ball here!) I am so delighted that you like Drawn Together. I think it was one of my very favorite character pairings. I don’t know whether Loose Id will put it out in print, usually that decision is made based on the number of copies sold and whether demand for it is high enough. They just put St. Nacho’s in print, and Drawn Together seems to be doing well. I’m thrilled to say that Crossing Borders seems to still appeal to people. So maybe they will. I hope so, I hate to say it but print books make me feel like a real writer, and when I hold them in my hands I go all squeeeee! If they do, it won’t be for a while, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have the willpower to keep myself from finishing a book for ANYTHING. If they did put it out in print, I’d buy it just for P.L. Nunn’s cover. YUM! Isn’t she just great!

Oh, I adore the cover! And I’m seldom won over by cover art, honestly. But this is so striking and it captures the essence of the characters and the story so well.

I’m pretty good at denying myself, so I could hang in there for a considerable while, but I think I’m just going to head back and buy an html copy and print it out. It’s not the same as bound, but it’ll do. (Sometimes I do really wish I had a laptop.) Meanwhile, maybe I’ll pester the good folks at Loose Id a bit about this….
