St. Nacho’s Newest Residents

December 20, 2020 by Z.A. Maxfield

There’s a new man in town! Maybe you remember Tug from A Much Younger Man? Tug was kind of a jerk. A thief. An addict. So yeah…not a very awesome guy.

Enter the magical healing properties of a town like St. Nacho’s. Fate intervenes in the form of an OD and reintroduces Tug to Luke Greaves, the librarian who saves his life.

When I started this book, I intended it to be a sweet Christmas story half its length. But no matter how I looked at it, I couldn’t find a way to create a believable HEA, or even a good HFN for these two mens in a short book.

Because of Tug’s addiction, both men had to face their demons, recalibrate their expectations, and slow their roll before they could begin to have a relationship. And in the end, any HEA for a man with a lifelong, sometimes crippling health issue like addiction is by definition a series of HFNs that happen over and over, day after day, one day at a time.

I guess that’s why it was so compelling to write this book. I hope you enjoy it!

Happy Holidays, and I wish you the very best of New Years!

Meet Gabe!

January 25, 2020 by Z.A. Maxfield

Gabe: Partners in Grime

I Finally finished Gabe’s book!

Seriously, this has been a very long time coming. I started writing the Grime series and then got caught up with the My Cowboy Heart series. But I always had in the back of my mind that Gabe and Dave needed their story told. I simply needed the time to tell it.

I honestly don’t feel finished with the Grimeverse yet. There may be more to follow. It feels good to write a book that takes place in my hometown, even though I don’t actually live there, anymore. I’m close enough. My dentist is still there, all my friends. There’s an advantage to setting a book where you know all the sights, sounds, smells…well. Maybe the smell thing isn’t an advantage when you’re writing a book about crime scene cleanup. I loved living in the “OC” when I did, and I miss it. Especially being ten minutes away from Disneyland.

Speaking of which, I have never written a book about Disneyland. Hm… That is a thing I could do, even if only to create characters who visit Disneyland together. When you live as close as I do, Disneyland plays an important part of your life. You perform there if you’re in the orchestra, as my kids did. Often, adolescent pre-daters go there in groups. I had my first date at Disneyland, as well as first dates with several boyfriends. I probably got my first real kiss on the Haunted Mansion ride. I’ve lost my car in the parking lot, lost my temper in lines. I breastfed my babies in the Carnation “Mother” room. (Which is both comfortable and air conditioned!!!)

So maybe my next visit with the Grimesters will be a Valentine’s Day short, including a trip to Disneyland, free to all my fans.

I invite you to Stay Tuned…

Some sad news…

July 28, 2017 by Z.A. Maxfield

I’ve been to all of the GRL retreats, and I love each and every one of the people I see there every year. There is no better group of people. My Tribe. No better reason to get together and spend some time sharing hugs and space and stories.

But I’m experiencing some health issues (probably related to the concussion I had in May) and my husband is having some medical issues–related to mobility–and there’s just no telling what’s ahead for us right now. He and I are scheduled to be in Florida together in November for two weeks, so something on my schedule had to give.

It is my sincerest, deepest hope that everyone has a wonderful time. We sure need the community, huh? Now more than ever!

My heart will be with you and I will miss all your faces until next year when I can try again! In the meantime, I wish you all the very, very best!

All my love,

ZAM

The Wait Is Over!

July 7, 2017 by Z.A. Maxfield

All Wheel Drive

Healey Holly is battered, depressed, and looking to go to ground in his childhood home. He wants to rent the garage apartment, but it’s Diego Luz’s place now, and the last thing Diego wants is to share it.

Diego is recovering too—from the accident that put him in a wheelchair and the death of his mother shortly after. The garage apartment is where he’s keeping his mother’s things, and as long as they’re up those stairs and he’s down on the ground, there’s no way he can deal with his loss.  And that’s just how he likes it.

Healey believes in science. Diego believes in luck. It will take a blend of both, and some prayer thrown in besides, for these two to learn that it’s the journey and the destination that matters.

Nigel Gasp Is Back!

July 1, 2017 by Z.A. Maxfield

Gasp!

Jeff Paxton came home from Afghanistan looking to put down roots. Instead his pregnant sister talks him into a job babysitting the volatile megastar Nigel Gasp. Nigel is stubborn, needy, and determined to be the center of attention everywhere he goes. Before long, Jeff realizes that something is bothering Gasp, and that keeping him out of trouble might be more difficult than he thought.

Nigel never planned on getting old. He simply assumed a hard drinking, hard partying lifestyle would take care of that. Now that he’s turning forty, he’s depressed and a little bit desperate. To Nigel, forty seems like a fine age to deposit his DNA and check out while he’s still on top.

The last thing Jeff needs is to fall in love with Nigel Gasp. The last thing Nigel expects is a whole new reason to live. But how can Jeff put down roots with a man who is never in the same place twice?

Love can be shocking. Gasp! (re-release) To buy, click HERE

“Nigel?”

“Truth or dare.” Soft.

Jeff had to catch his breath before he answered. “Truth.”

“One of my personas worked for you. I felt it all night. Was it Ivy the Librarian? Keiko the Kitten?”

“I’m not attracted to women.”

“Nigel Gasp?”

“No, not Nigel—”

“Gzzzzzzzt. Two dares, Lying McLiar.”

“You didn’t let me finish. Not Nigel Gasp, Nigel Hazard. It’s Nigel Hazard who works for me.”

Silence.

“Nigel?”

Nigel cleared his throat. “I’m here.”

“Truth or dare.”

“Dare,” Nigel whispered.

Jeff’s heart slammed against his rib cage. His legs fell open wider, and he thought seriously about pleasuring himself. “Yeah?”

“Dare me to do something.” Nigel’s voice dripped with challenge. “Dare me to do…anything.”
