Friday is for Fugitives!

May 8, 2014 by Z.A. Maxfield

FugitiveColor_432I recently had the opportunity to re-release Fugitive Color, the 2010 novella with a new cover, and TA-DAH in audiobook format!

It’s quite cool to think my readers could be anywhere, roaring down lone country roads while listening to my book. *shivers*

To start things off with a GREAT BIG WIN, I’m offering a free ebook and audiobook to ONE lucky reader.  All you have to do is comment below. I’ll be heading out to Romantic Times Booklovers Convention on Monday, so you have until Mother’s Day Sunday (May 11) at Midnight EST to comment for the opportunity to win. Let me know what you’re thinking: What’s your favorite audiobook so far? How do you feel when you’re listening to sex scenes at a stoplight? Do you ever pull over to rewind parts you missed? Or like me, do you ever find yourself driving down the street so engrossed in the story you feel like “Cloak and Dagger Books” will be just down the next street on the right hand side or Jack Reacher is going to roar by at top speed in someone’s “borrowed” Bentley?

Fugitive Color remains unchanged from the earlier version, so if you already have it, consider picking up the companion audio book.

Here’s the blurb for Fugitive Color.

Max Lancaster’s neighbor — his muse the young ballerina Elena– has gone missing. Between secrets from his past and the fact that he’s altering his work in his sleep, he’s worried that he’s lost his mind.

By the time forensic artist Sumner Ellison arrives as part of the investigation even Max can see himself in the role of person of interest. Sumner Ellison doesn’t believe that Max killed Elena, yet he isn’t certain Max is entirely sane.

Sumner offers Max oblivion in bed and unflinching honesty. Max takes what Sumner offers, losing himself in the younger man’s body while hiding his heart from Sumner’s love.

When doubt pulls them apart, it takes the power of Max’s passion and the purity of Sumner’s faith to create a love that won’t fade away over time.

Lisent to a sample at the Audible Website!

I actually haven’t really delved into the audiobook world yet. (I did pick up an audio copy of Colm Toibin’s THE EMPTY FAMILY at the library once, because I really wanted to hear one m/m-tastic tale read in an Irish brogue. The guy’s voice was all wrong for the character, though, and it ruined it for me.) I’ve been wanting to hear the audio version of Damon Suede’s HOT HEAD for ages, but I’m worried that I’ll spontaneously combust like one of the drummers in Spinal Tap. FUGITIVE COLOR sounds like one that would be a great audiobook, I’d bet!

Thanks Trix. I love audio books, I have Hot Head, and I recommend it! I haven’t heard of the other one. Once you start enjoying your m/m favorites on audio, you’ll be surprised how often you listen. I’ve enjoyed the Adrien English series by Josh Lanyon many times over too, that’s one of my faves…

I love audiobooks. I listen to dozens of them each year. I don’t like to listen to anything with explicit sex scenes in audio books because I usually listen at work and I always imagine that my coworkers might somehow hear what I’m listening to so it makes me very uncomfortable. I’m listening to the latest Lucas Davenport Prey book right now.

Hi Kim, I can relate. I listened to a Jack Reacher book with my son the other day too. We skipped anything that was potentially sexy because I don’t know which is worse, listening with your 16-year-old son or being sixteen and listening with your mother! Gross. I ADORE audio books. So much better than trying to find a great song on the radio.

I have not listened to a M/M audio book. But I have listened to the entire Harry Potter series narrated by Jim Dale and they were great. Thanks for the contest! If I win I will let you know how I enjoyed listening to the book.

Hi Charlie, Jim Dale is amazing. It took me months to figure out it was one man doing all those voices. He really brought those to life! His Harry Potter audiobooks were the soundtrack to all my children’s lives, because we used to play them from the bedroom hallway so everyone could listen at night. We took them along in the RV, we kept them in the car. We loved those so much!

I love audiobooks and sample is good. A must try for sure. Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

Thanks Val! I thought it was fun to hear how someone else reads my work. It’s a little uncomfortable, too… I don’t know. Trying new things is never easy…

And here I thought I had read all of your books! Count me in please…Thanks for the chance to win!

Hi Michelle, I think Fugitive Color kind of slipped by at a time when I had other things going. I don’t write a lot of romantic suspense. I guess people were reading more of the the romcoms or St. Nacho’s or something. I thought bringing it back with a new cover and an audiobook might convince people who passed it by to take a second look, so, I guess mission accomplished! 😀

I, too, thought I had read all your books….i just purchased Fugitive Color.

I enjoy audiobooks. I usually listen to them in the car. It’s a bit embarrassing if I forget to turn the audio off when i’m at work or the doctor’s office though.

Hi Lisa, I had that problem the other day, I was playing Josh Lanyon’s Death of a Pirate King on my radio (it plays from the bluetooth on my phone) and after I left the car, and started toward my doctor’s office, it started blasting audibly from the phone itself (which it doesn’t always do, I don’t know why it did that time. It usually turns off.) I hit a button or something. It was an… intimate scene. *blush* I doubt anyone heard, but I admit to feeling a little skeevy. Now I check it’s turned off before I leave the car…

Also not done the audio thing but perfect opportunity to fry it! Anything ZAM is it for me. You rock!

Aw, thanks Paula! I enjoyed the process. It was a little weird. When someone else is reading your work you hear every word choice, or at least, if you wrote something back then you wouldn’t write now it grates. It’s odd, but very fun!

I usually listen to audio books when I’m walking or working on a craft project. I often find myself giggling at the sex scenes though; it can’t help it!

Hi Ashley, I know right? I giggle too. Especially if they’re scenes I wrote… LOL

I am so excited to get Fugitive Color on audio book. It is on my wishlist at Audible, I am just waiting for those lovely credits I get each month. I was so excited to see another of your books up there. I have the holiday short ones too. Audio books are my favorite things, I can re-read my favorite books by listening to them. I spend my free time reading and the times that are not free time I listen to books while I do the whole cleaning house thing.

Thank you for letting us know that Fugitive Color has not changed. That will ease the book budget just a little.

Hi Tiffany! Thank you! I love audiobooks too. I get a lot more done at the gym when I’m concentrating on someone else’s story. It keeps my mind off how boring and repetitive weight training or treadmill walking is, that’s for sure.

I made sure that everyone knows it’s the same book. I goofed up and forgot to put that on the Amazon blurb at first but changed the wording as soon as they let me. It’s a great cover but no one wants to buy a book just because the cover changes…

I should make post cards of that cover for GRL though, it’s so pretty!
