Way Back Wednesday – My Cowboy Freedom

July 11, 2018 by Z.A. Maxfield

http://www.zamaxfield.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/promo-MyCowboyFreedom.mp4

The author of My Cowboy Promises and My Cowboy Homecoming returns once again to the Rocking C Ranch…

After doing time, Skyler is used to fighting for everything he wants, and what he wants most is a job at the Rocking C. But Sky’s boss Sterling Chandler is a vocal homophobe and his men don’t necessarily trust an ex-con. Sky plans to mind his own business and put his past behind him; hopefully, the men he works with will do the same. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t like a friend—especially one like shy giant Rock Evans.

But Rock has health problems, which come with expensive bills, and a hyper-protective family that won’t hesitate to intervene if Sky gets too close. He can either fall in line with his family’s beliefs, or lose what little independence he has. Both Rock and Skyler are about to learn that there’s more than one kind of prison in My Cowboy Freedom…

Reviews —

My Cowboy Freedom is a must-read in a charged era of changing sexual principles. The novel’s “turn the other cheek” scene stole my breath. And yet, there was more… and more. –Anniemaus, Amazon review

This one requires patience for a while, but then, like me, you will not be able to put it down, or get it out of your heart, or craw. Well done. Bo, Amazon Review

I’m a newcomer to this series by Z.A. Maxfield so I wasn’t sure what to expect although the story line for this book appealed to me. I was not disappointed. In fact, I found myself enthralled by Sky and Rock’s story. Wow… –Smitten With Reading B+ review.

A Plummet to Soar Story

Feckless, luckless, and charming, Mackenzie Detweiller is the author of a self-help book one reviewer calls “the most misbegotten motivational tool since Mein Kampf.” He’s maneuvered himself into a career as a life coach, but more often than not, his advice is bad. Really bad.

It’s even getting people hurt… and Mackenzie sued.

It falls to Mackenzie’s long-suffering acquisitions editor, JD Chambers, to deliver the bad news. He chooses to do so face-to-face—to see if the spark he senses between them is real when they’re together in the flesh. Unfortunately, a snowstorm, a case of nerves, a case of mistaken identity, and finally a murder get in the way of a potential enemies-to-lovers romance.

There are many, many people who have good reason to want Mackenzie dead. JD must find out which one is acting on it before it’s too late for both of them.

All Wheel Drive

September 20, 2017 by Z.A. Maxfield

I made a playlist while I was working on All Wheel Drive.

I am probably showing my age, but here are the songs that got me in the mood! A couple are even mentioned in the book!

Haven’t Read it?

But what is it?

July 13, 2017 by Z.A. Maxfield

Angsty read or Rom-Com?

**** “Readers drawn to angst-filled romances and characters that pull at the heartstrings will find themselves captivated by this story and the journey these two bruised men undertake.” Jody, Words of wisdom…from the Scarf Princess.

**** “Wow, if you like angst and broken characters, then this is the book for you.” Smitten with Reading

I noticed that I’m on the RomCom list with All Wheel Drive as well as the normal m/m romance lists. I am thrilled to see the reviews coming in for All Wheel drive are super-positive.

One thing I noted. People seem to agree that my characters start out pretty tragic in AWD. I guess they do! Healey’s been in a bad breakup and a life altering incident with his ex, and Diego had an life-altering accident and on the heels (Heals, huh!) of that, he lost his mother.

But I laughed an awful lot when I was writing that book. Humor is how I deal with illness, with tragedy, with death. And for the most part, the people I’ve met who are living with disabilities on a daily basis–starting with My Sweet Babboo–have awesome senses of humor about pretty grim things.

Nurses. OMG. My friends in nursing and EMS are hilarious, if you don’t mind laughing about frankly nauseating things sometimes. They are the best people to drink with in the world… Plus, when you concuss yourself they can help you out. (If you’re likely to wander at night in the dark, always put your suitcase in the closet or up on the luggage rack. Just sayin’)

If you’re looking at All Wheel Drive and thinking you might need to put it off for a four hankie night when you don’t care about life, remember, it’s a ZAM book! The humor is there.

I really can’t help myself.

Nigel Gasp Is Back!

July 1, 2017 by Z.A. Maxfield

Gasp!

Jeff Paxton came home from Afghanistan looking to put down roots. Instead his pregnant sister talks him into a job babysitting the volatile megastar Nigel Gasp. Nigel is stubborn, needy, and determined to be the center of attention everywhere he goes. Before long, Jeff realizes that something is bothering Gasp, and that keeping him out of trouble might be more difficult than he thought.

Nigel never planned on getting old. He simply assumed a hard drinking, hard partying lifestyle would take care of that. Now that he’s turning forty, he’s depressed and a little bit desperate. To Nigel, forty seems like a fine age to deposit his DNA and check out while he’s still on top.

The last thing Jeff needs is to fall in love with Nigel Gasp. The last thing Nigel expects is a whole new reason to live. But how can Jeff put down roots with a man who is never in the same place twice?

Love can be shocking. Gasp! (re-release) To buy, click HERE

“Nigel?”

“Truth or dare.” Soft.

Jeff had to catch his breath before he answered. “Truth.”

“One of my personas worked for you. I felt it all night. Was it Ivy the Librarian? Keiko the Kitten?”

“I’m not attracted to women.”

“Nigel Gasp?”

“No, not Nigel—”

“Gzzzzzzzt. Two dares, Lying McLiar.”

“You didn’t let me finish. Not Nigel Gasp, Nigel Hazard. It’s Nigel Hazard who works for me.”

Silence.

“Nigel?”

Nigel cleared his throat. “I’m here.”

“Truth or dare.”

“Dare,” Nigel whispered.

Jeff’s heart slammed against his rib cage. His legs fell open wider, and he thought seriously about pleasuring himself. “Yeah?”

“Dare me to do something.” Nigel’s voice dripped with challenge. “Dare me to do…anything.”
